Ilam is a popular hill station of Nepal to visit once in lifetime famous for Tea Garden which is about 600 K.m. (370 mi) from Kathmandu located in the eastern part of Nepal. Besides Tea garden, Ilam is also famous for Mountain streams, dense forest, holy sites, unique culture and cultural diversity.
It's elevation ranges from 140m - 3,636m above sea level and covers an area of 1,703 km² (658 sq. mi.). Ilam district is bordered by Panchthar within North, Jhapa within South, West Bengal of India within East and Morang district within West. Ilam is also called Charkhol (areas of 4 rivers) due to the four major rivers as Jogmai, Puwamai, Mai and Deumai within the district.
Ilam ensures good climate throughout the year and best time to visit here is from October - December or from April - February. People here do flourishing cash crops such as potato, cardamom, ginger, red round chilly, milk, broom grass, etc. People also visit Ilam for botanical and anthropological research.
Antu Danda is the beautiful hill within the district that offers spectacular sight of sunrise and sunset over the eastern himalayas. This hill is 2,328m high from where terraced hills of tea garden, cash crops, terai flatlands and thick forest of pine tree is seen beautifully. Plains of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India is seen on bright and clear day. Antu Danda area offers local home- stay facility within the area which is about three hour drive from Ilam Bazar and about an hour drive from Pashupatinagar.
Sadakpur which is at height of 3,636m provides panoramic view of Himalayas like Mt. Kanchanjunga, Mt. Kumbhakarna, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Everest. Red Panda, Musk Deer and Danphe are the rare wildlife which take shelter in the forest of this area. One has to go to Maimajhua Khorsanitar through Mai Pokhari first and then trek for about five hours from here to reach Sadakpur.
MaiPokhari (2,121m) is the pristine lake where every year on the month of October or November an annual fair is held as it is considered as the holy abode of Goddess Bhagwati. Mai Pokhari is about 13km from Ilam bazar which take half an hour. Mai Pokhari is surrounded by dense forest of pine, a fir, juniper and variety of flora and fauna.
Kanyam and Fikal are two famous places with large Tea estate in Ilam. National and International tourist from different places visit here for picnicking, sightseeing and for photography. Fikal is also business centre within the area on the way to Ilam and also the junction to go eastern border city Pashupatinagar adjacent to Darjeeling district of India.

Siddhi Thumka (1,800m) is one of the beautiful place to enjoy the spectacular view of sunrise and sunset in Ilam. Terai flatlands, the Mahabharat range and the Churia mountain range is also seen from this area. It takes about 3 hour trek to reach Siddhi Thumka from Ilam bazar.

This area nearly have 11 variety species of Rhododendron, herbal plants, rare herb Yarshagumba, various species of bird and endangered species of animals Red panda, Musk deer. Most part of Ilam along with Mt. Kanchanjunga, third highest peak in the world is seen from here.
